The concept of a winter skiing holiday has been very popular now for a number of decades. There is something about having a full day on the slopes, returning to your cosy and warm ski chalets and then perhaps heading out again to experience the fantastic apres ski facilities that may exist in your resort.
The most well known winter skiing resorts for Europe can be found in Switzerland, France, Austria and northern Italy. These attract hundreds of thousands of tourists each and every year and the facilities associated with them are truly excellent.
But there are actually numerous other places around the world where you may wish to head, if you are an avid winter sports enthusiast. Staying in Europe to start: The Pyrenees is always a crowd-puller, as is Norway and there are even resorts located in the Scottish Highlands.
Heading over to North America, Colorado offers some of the best skiing in the entire United States and Canada has some excellent resorts within the Rockies as well.
If you really fancy a change of scene, you will find some resorts in the Andes and even more in other mountainous regions of Europe - e.g. The Czech Republic and Poland. Winter sports seem to be catching on in terms of popularity all the time, therefore it is no surprise that more and more resorts are cropping up.
