The concept of a winter skiing holiday has been very popular now for a number of decades. There is something about having a full day on the slopes, returning to your cosy and warm ski chalets and then perhaps heading out again to experience the fantastic apres ski facilities that may exist in your resort. The most well known winter skiing resorts for Europe can be found in Switzerland, France, Austria and northern Italy. These attract hundreds of thousands of tourists each and every year and the facilities associated with them are truly excellent. But there are actually numerous other places around the world where you may wish to head, if you are an avid winter sports enthusiast. Staying in Europe to start: The Pyrenees is always a crowd-puller, as is Norway and there are even resorts located in the Scottish Highlands. (more...) For many people it is a lifelong dream to travel to the other side of the world and see the sights and attractions of Australia. This type of holiday does not come cheap, especially if you are flying all the way from the UK, therefore it is always a good idea to make sure you plan things before you go, to really make the most out of the trip. First, of course, you need to consider the city you wish to fly to. Most of the time this will be Sydney, but bear in mind that you can also arrive in other airports, such as Perth and Melbourne for example. You should also do your best to venture off and experience other states and cities. Then comes the accommodation in Australia, will this be in one location or are you out to explore far more of the country? Australian hotels become very expensive in the cities, therefore you should try to book in advance for the chance of some slightly better deals. (more...) It may sound like a cliché but there are several actions that you can take to make any long haul flight safer and more comfortable. Whether you are travelling business class on flights to Sydney or economy to South America, the principle is the same on how to stay well. Often people think that they should start their holiday as they mean to go on and the party starts at the airport, often involving alcohol. Many airlines will refuse to take you if you have been drinking too much but even if you are drinking in moderation, remember that alcohol dehydrates the body and you will feel fitter and fresher after your flight if you have not been drinking at all. (more...) Whether you prefer trekking in the Andes or are looking for some seriously exciting thoughts about my travel in Australia, we could all do with a bit of inspiration from time to time and luckily there are several places where we can find exactly what we need. Blogs are a great way to find out about real life on some of these trips of a lifetime and many people keep their blog updated with pictures and experiences the whole way through their gap year. This gives a real insight into life on the road and is a great source of inspiration for your dream trip. Travel magazines are also proof that print is not obsolete as we still love pouring over the glossy pages planning our next trip to Europe, Asia or Australia and mentally putting a pin into the countries and hotels we have always wanted to visit. (more...) It is often said that it is possible to get upgrades to a better class of travel without paying for it and there is advice a plenty on what you should wear and what you should do in order to gain an upgrade from economy class to business class on your flights to Melbourne or Majorca. Upgrades do happen, but not nearly as often as many people think and they are rarely handed out willy nilly and out of good will – after all they cost money in terms of the cost of the food and drink, so airlines do not generally hand them out unless they have good reason to. I have been a frequent traveller for the last twenty years and have only been upgraded a handful of times over this period. (more...) If you really want to learn English quickly and more easily, why not consider an English Homestay Belfast for your language course? The benefits of a homestay course are numerous, not least that you actually live with your English teacher so you have private tuition at home, so to speak, and interact with the tutor and his or her family at other times such as breakfast and dinner. You also have trips arranged in the afternoon so it is not just hard work, but great fun as you get to practise your English skills in different places and learn more about the culture of Northern Ireland. The best thing is that you are totally immersed in the language, so even if you are shy and afraid to speak up in groups, you will have no choice but to speak English – in a good way of course! (more...) One of the interesting aspects of travel is to see whether in fact the stereotypical images of people in certain countries do match up to real life and in some cases these stereotypes are scarily true and in other cases wide off the mark. We often imagine the French people to take lazy lunches, scoff at authority and protest at the slightest disruption to their lifestyle: such as longer working hours or an increase in French mortgage rates. They eat nothing but onions, garlic, snails and frogs legs with a liberal dash of excellent red wine. The Italians we see as hot headed, fiery people who wave their arms around and love their food, yet do not seem to put on an ounce. The women are sultry and beautiful and the mothers are dominant and forceful, while the men are born to be lovers, yet not quite trustworthy. (more...) Most people who venture half way across the world to Sydney feel inclined to stay in an hotel when they get there. Often tired and jet lagged, this may not be the most ideal environment in which to recover from such a long flight - what with noisy corridors and neighbours all around you. This is just one of the reasons why furnished apartments in Sydney to rent may prove to be a better idea for you. Not only will you have a quieter property that will enable you to quickly get back on your feet, you will have a home-away-from-home for the duration of your stay in the city. Self catering accommodation really allows you to experience the traditional way of life in the area you are staying. This means you can shop in the local markets and recreate the most popular dishes within your own fully equipped kitchen. (more...) When some people travel to Australia, they really want to get up close and personal with the country, to experience the bush as naturally as possible, and perhaps to live like an Australian when staying in one of their cities. As far as the cities are concerned, there are a few options in the way of accommodation for you. First of all is the traditional hotel: ranging from basic properties right up to luxurious five star. You may also wish to consider hostels if you are travelling on a budget and these types of accommodation have improved tremendously over recent decades; not quite the nightmarish scenario you may be picturing from the past. A guide to Sydney travel and accommodation are a good place to start when thinking about what accommodation may suit you and your family. Then you may be contemplating a furnished apartment in Sydney which will give you the total freedom to come and go as you please and will mean that you can keep all of your travelling party together under one roof. (more...) Whether you have visited a foreign country on holiday or are a native of another country living in this one, it is nice to have reminders of the fantastic things found elsewhere. The world is full of great culture and getting a taste of it whilst you travel can mean that you miss some aspects of it when you return home. For example, you may have spent some time in the wonderful country of France. This western European country has a fantastic culture which the natives are, quite rightly, fiercely proud of. Many people visit France every year and take home souvenirs to family, friends or even to remind them of the fantastic time they had. For some people a souvenir is not enough though. They want things from France that will give them a more intense reminder of their time there. Luckily, there are dedicated websites who offer many different items from France that people can buy to use or keep. (more...) If you have made that massive decision to move abroad and start a new life - it is vitally important that you tackle this project carefully and sensibly. Whatever you do, do not just up sticks and move to the country without having visited a couple of times beforehand. You will also want to learn about any property tips that may be available to help you with the move. First and foremost, you will need to gage a good idea of what the average property prices are like in the area you have in mind. This will be the case whether you decide to buy or rent. You should undertake at least one lengthy fact-finding trip to the country you most favour. Whilst there, see how you actually feel about the people and the country generally. Remember that you are trying to imagine how you will feel in five years plus: will you be truly happy to live in this country? (more...) Whether you have your heart set on Sitges Villa Rentals or a property in Marbella, in the south of Spain, there is no denying the fact that villa rentals has become a very popular idea. Not only in Spain, but increasingly all around the world now. There are some real perks to renting-out your own private villa for a while and here are just a few of them: Your Home-Away-from-Home (more...) Okay, I know, we have not even got the summer holidays out of the way yet, but now may still be the perfect time to consider a cosy little Christmas break away. There is no stopping you from going ahead and reserving a holiday that the whole family will love right now and just putting down the deposit. At least this way you will have lots of time to save-up the balance. There are a few popular ideas for great Christmas breaks and probably the one that shines out at the top of this list is Lapland Adventure Holidays. Trust me when I say that the kids usually absolutely love this. They have the best of both worlds on this type of holiday. Not only will they get the chance to visit Father Christmas in his actual homeland, but they will be able to take part in plenty of winter activities and adventures too. (more...) The Italian tourism industry has been suffering in the wake of the global economic recession. Numbers being reported back over the last couple of years have taken a downward tumble, therefore, action needed to be taken to get the number of visitors back on the rise. In the years leading up to the recession, Italy was reputed as being one of the most expensive countries to visit in the whole of Europe. In fact, package costs were quite ridiculous when compared with countries such as Greece and Spain. With less money around now to spend on the annual vacation, these rates needed to be brought down to a more realistic level. As well as the cost, the choice of holiday packages needed to be assessed. After all, not everyone travelling to Italy wants to stay in a dull hotel - more and more people are loving the idea of Holiday Villas in Italy as they provide far more freedom and a chance to experience the Italian way-of-life for yourself. (more...) People have been happy to take the four hour flight to any of the Canary Islands for many years now. Located just off the coast of West Africa, the main islands of Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are an absolute dream for hundreds of thousands of Brits each year. These islands have a infrastructure that is completely geared towards tourism. Whether it is luxury five star hotels on Gran Canaria, or Holiday Villas in Lanzarote, this is one part of Spain that you can head to and know that there is something that will completely cater to your taste and requirements. Then, of course, we have that Canarian weather. The best way to describe the type of climate you could expect in the Canary Islands would be as sub-tropical. There tends to be very little rain, year round, and the temperatures range from a pleasant 21 to 28 degrees Celsius. (more...) Golf is one sport that has caught on across the entire globe. From Thailand to Toronto, you can bet your bottom dollar that there will always be a decent course close by if you fancy trying to improve your handicap. When most people think about a golfing holiday - they usually see many pound signs in front of their eyes - and feel that this type of break would be out of their price range. But there are ways of finding Cheap Golf Holidays without even having to compromise in the least. The best way to get a good deal would be to travel out of the main summer season and find an all inclusive special package that will include your tee-off times, accommodation and sometimes all of your meals. These can represent excellent value for money and it is always preferable to stay in the same resort. (more...) At the end of the day, one of the best ways to evaluate a travel company must be down to the way in which it deals with its disgruntled customers. You can investigate the Travel PR as much as you want, this will not tell you how good a company they really are until you travel with them and something goes wrong. Having worked within and written on the travel industry for around 14 years, I would say I am in a good position to pass an informed opinion on this issue. For the most part, my overall opinion would be that the majority of travel companies have a deplorable track record when it comes to dealing with holiday complaints. I have tended to find, over the last ten years or so, that as the demand for no frills holidays has grown, the average level of customer service has taken a massive nose-dive at the same time. Within the travel industry, never has it been more pertinent to state that you really do get what you pay for. (more...) Located on the western side of the Iberian Peninsula, Portugal is an immensely popular holiday destination that attracts tens of thousands of British holidaymakers each and every year. Many travel to the impressive and historic capital, Lisbon, but by far the most visited area would have to be The Algarve. The Algarve is situated in the far south of the country and this is where Portugal has a stretch of coast on the Mediterranean Sea. There are a number of excellent resorts in the region, together with perfect beaches and plenty of attractions to keep you fully entertained. Accommodation wise, there really is a huge choice. Whether you would prefer a self catering Algarve Property or an all-inclusive and luxury hotel resort - it is all here for you. (more...) There are very few other countries in the world that can offer you such a wide choice of accommodation, for a holiday, than France. From chateaux to gites and Luxury Villas in France, the world is your oyster and no two holidays to this diverse country need ever be the same. If the idea of a chateau grabs you, there are literally hundreds of them open to the public across the entire country. This would make for the ultimate romantic break, in an absolute fairytale setting, and may prove to be the best place to get down on one knee and pose that question. The Loire Valley is possibly one of the best parts of France to enjoy a chateau holiday and the choice in this region is vast. Then you have that little known word - gite. People that have little clue on anything Francophile may not have heard of this type of property, but it is basically a charming and quintessentially French cottage. Think rustic, quaint and cosy and you may have an idea of what you can expect from staying in such a delightful property. (more...) Hen and stag nights are a great excuse for friends and family of the bride or groom-to-be to celebrate their last night of freedom. It is expected that the event organiser will give them a really good send off before they embark on married life.
The trend in the last few years has been to hold stag and hen do's abroad. But in these times of financial restraint many people are now bucking the trend and opting for stag weekends UK instead of Amsterdam, New York or Benidorm.
And why not? There are many benefits to holding your hen or stag do over here instead of away. It is cheaper to get to and so more people are likely to attend, as many people are put off by the high cost of getting to foreign destinations.

It didn't take me long to find exactly what I was looking for and even cheaper than the budget I'd put aside. Everything taken care of from take off to touch down, what more could I want? Travel to me means excitement, intrigue and relaxation. I love to travel and explore different parts of the world but I have to be careful my wallet doesn't stretch as far as the air miles. My journey starts with a low cost flight and I build from there. Once I've got my low cost flight it enables me a little more leeway to spend on accommodation and food. I love to travel and the world is my oyster really, and I have had so many holidays just deciding on the last minute where I want to go. (more...) If you are planning to travel to Sydney, then you already know there is so much to see and do in this vast country. There are countless sightseeing opportunities that are natural and can be done from anywhere that you are at. There are many options that will want to be considered. Plus, there are many beaches and pools to enjoy, as well as museums and histories to explore also. The beach areas are not like beaches in other areas. Sydney offers a range of shopping at the many stores, boutiques, art galleries, malls and more. You will definitely not ever be bored while searching for Sydney travel accommodation and then booking your holiday in Sydney, Australia. There are many world famous landmarks in the area, plus many picture taking opportunities too. They day life is exciting and vast, as is the night life too. (more...) I remember when I was booking my holiday to Australia, I found it very exasperating that these packages seemed to be so prohibitively expensive. The cost was high whether I booked an inclusive package through a tour operator or even reserved each part of the holiday package separately. Then I found that I was very annoyed by the fact that the tour operators that travel to Australia, seem to have an agreement whereby they refuse to publish the cost of the whole package in advance - they would only give you the cost of the flipping hotels and one idea of a fare that you will not find available when you try to go ahead and book - very unhelpful. In the end, I realised that I did not like the way in which these companies were being so disingenuous and decided to avoid them altogether. I found the best way to tackle the extraordinary Australia was to definitely take care of arrangements myself. I booked a flight that included several Qantas and BA flights together and this was on a special round-the-world fare that meant that I just had to keep travelling east around the globe. This actually worked out as being excellent value for money, although I would encourage you to steer clear of Qantas for your flights - I thought they were horrendous! - and try to stick to BA. (more...) If your ultimate destination is Australia, you have probably been trying to ascertain an idea of the expected airfare. If you have taken a sneaky peek lately, you were no doubt shocked by the high fares that were being offered to you. Air fares to Australia are at the highest they have ever been, right now. If you can secure a return ticket to and from Australia for less than £1000, you will have done very well indeed. If you prefer to fly in a premium economy cabin - which is much more comfortable for such a long journey - the fares are usually around £1650 plus. There may just be a good way of reducing this high fare and it involves being a little tricky here. Sometimes, you may be able to get a much better fare to the Far East: e.g. Hong Kong or Bangkok. Then book a separate return flight to and from this destination and Australia. (more...)
